Are you an MBA,CFA or an Engineer looking for a job in equity research or investment analysis?
Great! You are not the only one who is searching for a job in this area. There are tens of thousands of MBA students passing out of MBA institutes each year. When you enter the college, you are assured placement in most cases by the institute. But,campus placement happens only in top 25% of the institutes. What about the rest of the institutes and its students?
If you look at the fees,it can range anywhere from Rs.1 lakh to 8 lakhs for a 2-year MBA program in India. The CFA costs you roughly Rs.2 lakh. After gaining the MBA degree, you plan to apply for the “dream job” of yours and start “job hunting”. You apply for a job and wait for several weeks/months,but you do not get a mail/call from the company even after having an MBA/CFA degree.
Do you know the reason?
90% of you will not have any clue. I have an answer. As I said,in my previous post,What employers want, you should plan your career in such a way that you do not need to find a job. I will tell you the difference. Career is a long term planning whereas getting a job is a short term thing. You will make your career in equity research IF you are really passionate about the equity research area and want to acquire the skills by investing time and energy into it.
Ask yourself this question: “Why a company should hire me if I do not have the required skillset ?”
Now,if you are committed to making yourself an equity research analyst, you will follow the structured career path. What is this “structured career path”? I will explain this in my next post.
